Saharan 1000 kilsan seikkailujuoksun alkuun on tasan 250 päivää!

Kropalle on hyvä antaa uusia ärsykkeitä. Jossain vaiheessa aion vetää perässä auton rengasta, mutta palaan siihen asiaan, kun se asia konkretisoituu.

The start of the 1,000 km Sahara adventure run is exactly 250 days away!

Training is going well, and I’ve stayed healthy (knock on wood…).

I’ve increased my training volume.

On Monday and yesterday, Thursday, I even logged three training sessions in a single day.

These “triple days” are always followed by a rest day, today included.

In January 2026 I am not quite in 1,000 km shape yet, but by October I will be.

It’s good to give the body new stimuli. At some point I plan to pull a car tire during training, but I’ll get back to that once it becomes more concrete.

Sahara at its best!

Show ownership!

When we talk about protecting this planet, the conversation often feels distant.
Too big. Too complex.

Someone else’s responsibility...

But what if the missing piece is ownership?

Ownership doesn’t mean we own the Earth in the sense of control or entitlement.
It means something much deeper.

It means responsibility. Care. Attention.

Think about how we treat things we truly own.
We don’t neglect them.
We don’t abuse them.
We take care of them, not because we’re forced to, but because we feel connected.

The planet doesn’t need more spectators.
It needs more owners.

For me, taking ownership means asking a simple question:

What can I personally do, with the skills and limits I have?

My answer is running.

I plan is to run for nature, across glaciers and deserts.
Not because it will save them.

But because they are disappearing, and I refuse to look away.

Running across glaciers is my way of showing ownership.
Of turning concern into action.
Of reminding myself, and hopefully others, that this planet is not abstract.
It is physical. Fragile.

And worth the effort.

Ownership doesn’t have to look the same for everyone.
It doesn’t require extreme actions.
But it does require engagement.

It changes the question from
“What should they do?”
to
“What can I do?”

Because no single action will save the planet.
But indifference guarantees that nothing will.

And the powerful thing is this: ownership is shared.
This planet belongs to all of uus and therefore, responsibility does too.

When everyone takes ownership of a small part,no one is powerless.

So maybe real change doesn’t start with new technology or new policies —
but with a simple shift in mindset.

From observers…to owners.

Thanks for reading.

Islanti / Iceland

January 21, 2026/in Uncategorized /by Jukka Viljanen

Minusta on kuoriutunut varsinainen Islanti-fani!

Olen nimittäin jälleen lähdössä Islantiin valmistelemaan ensi vuoden jäätikköseikkailua.

Olen kantanut jo usean vuoden ajan “Running for the Arctic” -soihtua ja niin teen jatkossakin, mutta nyt alkaa uusi, vähän samanlainen projekti.

“Running for the Glaciers” -hanke keskittyy nimenomaan Islantiin ja siellä oleviin jäätiköihin.

I’ve turned into quite an Iceland fan!

In fact, I’m once again heading to Iceland to prepare for next year’s glacier adventure.

I’ve been carrying the “Running for the Arctic” torch for several years now and will continue to do so, but now a new, somewhat similar project is beginning.

The “Running for the Glaciers” initiative focuses specifically on Iceland and its glaciers.

If my help is useful, I will continue to offer it, among others, to the Finnish Meteorological Institute as well as to other research institutions or similar organizations that do valuable work in the field of climate research.

I’ll share more about the project in the coming months.

Below is the project’s new logo (Thanks, Jyri!).
