En ehk\u00e4 ihan niin paljon kuin olisi pit\u00e4nyt….<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Olen t\u00e4ysin riippuvainen mukana kulkevasta tiimist\u00e4 ja my\u00f6s heist\u00e4, jotka ovat t\u00e4\u00e4ll\u00e4 Suomessa, kun olen poissa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tiimist\u00e4 huolehtiminen on v\u00e4hint\u00e4\u00e4n yht\u00e4 t\u00e4rke\u00e4\u00e4 kuin omasta harjoittelusta tai ravinnosta huolehtiminen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gr\u00f6nlanti 2013.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meit\u00e4 on viisi ukkoa ylitt\u00e4m\u00e4ss\u00e4 j\u00e4\u00e4tikk\u00f6\u00e4.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Inuiitit Hans ja Salo, Jens-Erik, Greg ja min\u00e4.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meit\u00e4 oli matkassa yhden sijasta kolme tiimi\u00e4<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Team 1 Salo ja Hans, Team 2 Jens-Eri ja Team 3 Greg ja Jukka.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

N\u00e4in j\u00e4lkik\u00e4teen ajateltuna ei ole mik\u00e4\u00e4n ihme, ett\u00e4 emme saavuttaneet tavoitettamme, ylitt\u00e4\u00e4 Gr\u00f6nlannin mannerj\u00e4\u00e4tikk\u00f6 juoksemalla.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ensimm\u00e4isen\u00e4 maailmassa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Viiden hengen ryhm\u00e4st\u00e4 ei muodostunut miss\u00e4\u00e4n vaiheessa samaan hiileen puhaltavaa tiimi\u00e4.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kolmikko Jens-Erik + inuiitit tekiv\u00e4t nippa nappa sen mit\u00e4 oli sovittu, mutta se ei riit\u00e4.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Min\u00e4 en, kokemattomana retkikunnan johtajana ymm\u00e4rt\u00e4nyt, mit\u00e4 hyvin yhteen hitsautunut tiimi voi saada aikaan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Siksi menimme konkurssiin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kuusi vuotta my\u00f6hemmin (2019) Team Greenlandilla oli ihan eri meininki.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Matkassa mukana olleet Salo ja Lars kertoivat j\u00e4\u00e4tik\u00f6n ylityksen j\u00e4lkeen, ett\u00e4 kyseess\u00e4 oli vahvin tiimi miss\u00e4 he olivat olleet mukana.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ja esimerkiksi Salolle (Salomon) se oli jo 16 j\u00e4\u00e4tik\u00f6n ylitys.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meill\u00e4 meni j\u00e4\u00e4tik\u00f6n ylitt\u00e4miseen 18 p\u00e4iv\u00e4\u00e4.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ennen j\u00e4\u00e4tik\u00f6lle l\u00e4ht\u00f6\u00e4 vietimme yhdess\u00e4 ainakin viikon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tapasimme toisemme vuotta aikaisemmin K\u00f6\u00f6penhaminassa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

J\u00e4\u00e4tik\u00f6ll\u00e4 ollessamme vietimme kaikki illat joko inuiittien tai Antin ja minun yhteisteltassa sy\u00f6den, kahvia juoden ja herjaa heittt\u00e4en.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

N\u00e4ill\u00e4kin opeilla varustettuna valmistaudumme kohti Saharaa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I gave a lecture on Thursday and talked about the team during it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maybe not quite as much as I should have\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I am completely dependent on the team traveling with me, and also on those who are here in Finland when I am away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Taking care of the team is at least as important as taking care of my own training or nutrition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Greenland, 2013.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There were five of us crossing the glacier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Inuit Hans and Salo, Jens-Erik, Greg, and me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Instead of one team, we ended up having three teams on the expedition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Team 1: Salo and Hans
Team 2: Jens-Erik
Team 3: Greg and Jukka<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Looking back, it is no wonder that we did not reach our goal \u2014 to run across the Greenland ice sheet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the first people in the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At no point did the group of five become a team that truly pulled together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The trio of Jens-Erik and the Inuit did just barely what had been agreed upon, but that was not enough.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I, as an inexperienced expedition leader, did not understand what a well-bonded team is capable of achieving.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Six years later, in 2019, Team Greenland had a completely different atmosphere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the crossing, Salo and Lars said that it was the strongest team they had ever been part of.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And for Salo (Salomon), it was already his 16th glacier crossing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It took us 18 days to cross the ice sheet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Before heading onto the glacier, we spent at least a week together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We had met each other a year earlier in Copenhagen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While on the ice sheet, we spent every evening either in the Inuit tent or in Antti\u2019s and my shared tent, eating, drinking coffee, and joking around.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With these lessons learned, we are now preparing for the journey toward the Sahara.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
