Between 2005 and 2009, I spent a lot\u2014really a lot<\/em>\u2014of time in Spain. I spent Christmases, Easters, and parts of the summers and autumns there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The warmth, the Mediterranean, the mountains, and of course the damn good training terrain. We also filmed a documentary for the commercial channel, \u201cPitk\u00e4 matka\u201d<\/em> (\u201cThe Long Journey\u201d), there in 2008.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Between training sessions we wandered around the outskirts of the village. That\u2019s where we found an animal sanctuary run by a former British soldier. There were horses, dogs, cats, pigs\u2026 and donkeys.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I became friends with Jim. I brought bagfuls of food for the animals and even donated some money to the sanctuary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And on top of that, I adopted several Spanish donkeys from there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I didn\u2019t bring them to Finland; they got to stay in their home region. I paid a certain amount for the adoption and received a certificate for it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In fact, I even adopted a few donkeys on behalf of my friends \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And that\u2019s not all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When I left for my adventure trip to the North Pole, I raised money for Jim\u2019s sanctuary in connection with it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I got a bit\u2026 well actually quite a lot of laughter and teasing because of it. \u201cOh, you\u2019re raising money for Spanish donkeys. Couldn\u2019t you think of anything dumber?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Well, you have to do things that feel meaningful to you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And the donkeys did.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vuosien 2005-2009 v\u00e4lisen\u00e4 aikana vietin paljon, siis todella paljon aikaa Espanjassa. Siell\u00e4 meni joulut, p\u00e4\u00e4si\u00e4iset, osat kes\u00e4st\u00e4 ja syksyst\u00e4.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Miksi?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

L\u00e4mp\u00f6, V\u00e4limeri, vuoret sek\u00e4 tietenkin hemmetin hyv\u00e4t harjoitusmaastot. Kuvasimme siell\u00e4 my\u00f6s maikkarin dokumenttia \u201cPitk\u00e4 matka\u201d vuonna 2008.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Treenien v\u00e4liss\u00e4 liikuskelin kyl\u00e4n laitamilla. L\u00f6ysin sielt\u00e4 brittil\u00e4isen ex-sotilaan yll\u00e4pit\u00e4m\u00e4n el\u00e4inten hoitokodin, jossa oli hevosia, koiria, kissoja, possuja\u2026.sek\u00e4 aaseja.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yst\u00e4vystyin Jimin kanssa. Vein hoitokotiin kassitolkulla el\u00e4inten ruokaa ja lahjoitin sinne hieman fyrkkaakin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kaiken kukkuraksi, adoptoin sielt\u00e4 useamman espanjalaisen aasin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

En tuonut niit\u00e4 Suomeen vaan ne saivat el\u00e4\u00e4 \u201ckotiseuduillaan\u201d. Maksoin adoptiosta tietyn summan ja sain siit\u00e4 todistuksen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Itse asiassa, adoptoin muutaman aasin my\u00f6s yst\u00e4villeni:-)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
